The missile strike, which occurred in Datta Khel district, a known sanctuary of local and foreign Islamist militants, was the second in the area in two days.
The intelligence official said the drone fired two missiles on a compound in Landi Muhammad Khel village, about 20 miles west of Miran Shah, the main town in North Waziristan. Initial reports from the scene show that four militants died in the attack and several others were injured, he said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.
In Islamabad, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry issued a statement that condemned the strike and renewed calls for the United States to cease drone attacks on Pakistan soil.
